Notice of Default
A Notice of Default may also be referred to as an N.O.D. or a Foreclosure Notice. It is a notification given to a homeowner stating that he or she has not made their mortgage payments by the predetermined deadlines. It is the first legal document you will receive if you fall behind on your payments. In California, the Notice of Default is the initial document filed by a trustee, and it is recorded in the county where the property is located. It is the first step that a lender takes in the foreclosure process. We have created this short video below that explains the Notice of Default and what it means.
